WHOOO!!!!

Pictured here: the most people Ben Wicks pub has seen on a Saturday night in years. God bless our pal Kris (far right) for taking it upon himself to be the jackass with the flag. Anyhow, not much comes to mind right now other than to paraphrase my comments on the previous post with a resounding HOLEE FUCK.

It makes perfect sense in retrospect, but anyone who says they saw this coming is a liar who deserves to get slapped in the mouth until they cry. And then held until they stop crying, because we didn't really mean it. It's just that we care so much about them that, well... you understand.

Now who wants ice cream?

Thanks to Alana for the photo!

I think I have a new project: this is poignantly dumb enough to be immortalized in a painting. Something we'd look back on in twenty years and smile.

Also, thanks to Wasabi Cowgirl (http://wasabicowgirl.blogspot.com/) for the photo.

Goddamn, that was sweet! A beautiful displaced-Edmonton-fans-moment in time. Our collective Orbs are pulsating to the rhythm of an Oil drum beat -- or something else vaguely hippie/Paul Simon-ish.

Anyhow, now is the time to gather the Toronto-dwelling Oil fans. Chris! and Mike will most likely address this right away, but we ought to pick some bars in the city to congregate at to watch the final round.

Suggestions? Think multiple big screens with sound and decent beer prices. Something less obvious/cheesy than Wayne Gretzky's hopefully.

If you're interested, check in here and let it be known how many Oil fans you could probably bring out to a game (get a rough idea of just how many of us are out there), and what part of T.O. yer in (North, South, East, West) -- maybe we can pack a few selected bars and ramp this thing up a notch. Maybe entice some bar owners to get some drink specials on the go too.

The power of Pisani compels you.

Oops, just noticed you already linked to Alana. Duh...

Absolutely! It should be titled "Now who wants ice cream".

Make sure you stencil this paragraph on the back of the frame someplace.

Gawd. I think I'd buy a print and I've never met any of you. You know what. I do want ice cream.

Make sure you take a picture of that painting and post it when you're finished.

"I don't think the better team beat us. We beat ourselves," said Teemu Selanne, who was scoreless on four shots.

-Do we want to hurt him for being such a sore loser, or do we not care because he muthafuckin' gowwwwwwn from tha playoffs?

Also, I live eerily close to Chris!, and the only two places I've been to watch the Oilers during the current playoffs were:
1) Poppers Pub (bathurst & bloor) - one big projector upstairs, decent game sound.. ample seating, kinda.
2) Molly Bloom's (college & beverley) - Every TV is a large wall mounted HD, they dimmed the lights for the entire game, and CRANKED up the sound. The place was practically empty for periods 1 & 2 of the Ducks game 4. Edmonton lost though, so I have a bad luck feeling about going back!!

I live in the East End - not Scarberia but at Coxwell.

Watched a game at T.K.O.'s - I didn't get stabbed.

Ahhh, never mind.

I live in the west side of Toronto (High Park area) and wouldn't mind meeting up with Oiler fans at a sports pub.

Only sports bar I can really think of, in this area, that might be a good spot to meet is a place at Jane/Bloor called "The Fan"

*I* am in Scarberia...but I'm good for anywhere downtown as well (work downtown, so I could just hang around there afterwards to meet up).

Though if Buffalo makes it, we could always invade there...

Fuck. I've been meaning to write a post on this because it really pisses me off. I despise that argument - "Sure we lost the series, but we were still the better team."

Detroit said it. San Jose said it. And now Anaheim is saying it. I even read some post somewhere saying that Edmonton would be the least deserving Stanley Cup winner in history.
Fuck you! If you had been the better team you would have won.

Exactly how long a playoff series do you require? I maintain my firm conviction that if your team loses a 7-game playoff series you have absolutely no basis on which to claim that your team was still better. It's a 7-game series for crying out loud! And your team lost every single game at home.

I can understand teams who lose in a one-game affair blaiming "luck" or whatever -- but it was 7 game series!

Fuck you Teemu.

Fuck you Teemu.

Sure there is such a thing as a sore loser, but don't pick on Teemu so much for frickin' P/R.

There's also such a thing as a sore winner, we used to call them Flames fans.

Try to imagine those words coming out of Steve Yzerman's mouth and get back to us.

keep us TO fans updated on where the next gathering of oil fans might occur. I'll do my best to show up.

will do.

I'd say Kris really took one for the team by not only being the jackass with the flag, but also being the jackass with the flag and a man-purse. Or is that just a straight-up purse?

mike w said...

Ah yes, Kris' man purse, or "murse". We've actually had quite a few conversations about that thing.

I'd be stunned if you hadn't.

Doogie2K said...

Oh, Lord, guys have murses there, too? What the hell is the world coming to? And what the hell happened to pockets?

So far, it's looking like Pauper's Pub (second floor, 539 Bloor -- right by Honest Ed's) is the best choice, as it's central-ish, right near the subway line (if the TTC isn't on strike, of course), they've got plenty of T.V. screens, and it's tough to beat $10 pitchers of beer and discount wings during games.

Now it's just a matter of when...

I think that Winters has pretty much set the schedule for this thing by announcing that he leaves to get his loot on on June 8th.

Fuck, it's not a purse or a murse, it's a satchel. It's where I keep my gold coins, and the pebbles for my slingshot.

It's a damn purse, Kris.

Game 2 on June 7th would be fricken awesome, I'll be in town at my girlfriends place for probably the last time during the week this summer.
