Conklin Watch

That's Ty Conklin, right, up to his usual tricks.

In his last NHL game with the Oilers, Ty Conklin got really nervous and mishandled the puck in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals. I always felt bad for him, never wishing for that to be his last taste of the NHL, so I'm happy to see that the dude has recently played two games with Columbus, with a spiffy .909 SVP, as a call up after Pascal Leclaire went down with injury. Things looked bleak in September, when Conklin lost the backup job in training camp to Fredrik Norrena, got waived and initially didn't play very well with the Syracuse Crunch. And yet it seems he's turned his game around just enough to get his first, likely short-lived, shot at redemption this December in Columbus. Another heart-warming Christmas Miracle.

Clicked on the Conklin link to hockeydb, and I think that the "Wolfsburg Grizzly Adams" of the German Elite League is probably the coolest name for a hockey team ever.

Does anyone else think that Ty's disaster in Game 1 effectively let Rollie off the hook for what was a pretty poor performance? He was given a 3-0 lead and couldn't hold it. IMO 2 of the goals were soft (the first, when he bobbled a fairly tame shot right to Brind'Amour, and the equaliser by Ray Whitney, a bad-angle unscreened shot).
