Jarret Stoll for Mayor?

Joey Moss' Edmonton Oilers 3
The Minnesota Wild 1

I'd suggest we saw the head off of the Gretzky statue outside Rexall Place and replace it with Jarret Stoll's noggin, coated in molten bronze, but we're obviously gonna need the dude for the remainder of the season.

Number 16 is flying high, well above his teammates, making hits, breaking up passes, scoring game-winning goals, and chugging up and down the ice like Ethan Moreau on a nitro pack. What looked like a typical Minnesota Wild Nyquil matchup circa 2003 for two periods broke out into a real game in the third, probably entirely because of Jarret Stoll (message to Rachel Hunter: he's a keeper).

Minnesota still scares me. It's the same positionally sound Lemaire team we've always known, but Brian Rolston has been scoring like nuts and that often-injured-always-getting-points Pavol Demitra was in the lineup. So yeah, great win for the Oil. The real test is to see how they do tomorrow against Colorado with little rest.

- Nice to see Shawn Horcoff get a goal. Unlike the more talented likes of Joffrey Lupul or Petr Sykora (3 assists all month), Horcoff never seems to stop working. He seems to have his legs now.

- Ladislav Smid: is it just me or is he a much better defenceman than he was a month ago?

- "Meh" to Alexei Mikhnov. It's hard to use your size when you're dopey and slow. He wasn't bad in front of the net on the Powerplay, but he's no replacement for Ryan Smyth

- What a pleasant feeling it is to have Dwayne Roloson between the pipes!

Okay, back to my god awful school paper. What an utterly familiar and unpleasant feeling. I'm too old for this...

Stoll played like a man possessed.

And talk about getting a monkey off one's back - on his goal, Horc actually looked like he was wrestling 2 or 3 orangutans, shrugged them off, and broke in alone. Nice move on Fernandez, too.

As for GREENE'S goal - i can't wipe the grin off my face every time i see the highlight.

I only caught the third (I hear your pain, studying for an exam - I'm way too old for this too) but WOW! Greene's goal was amazing, haven't seen anything like it, and Stoll and Torres are clicking right along and bringing the rest of those sad sacks with them. How long did they go without a whistle in the third?

Roloson looked like pre-playoff Roloson of last season though, letting out huge rebounds and looking awkwardly positioned on some shots I thought though.

All-in-all, possibly the best period of hockey I've seen all year.

Was Greene standing beneath Paul Coffey's banner when he lined up for the face-off?
