Thirty minutes into tonight's game against the Avs and it's already 3-0 Colorado.Do we really have to keep playing games? Can't we just forfeit the rest of the season and go get pizza or something?
5-0 after 40 minutes.
Oh god! Oh lord! The humanity! It's a shooting gallery in there! There's no one left to pull and put in net!
Oh, and Chris: where have you been? We haven't been playing for three weeks.
Good lord, the radio team just said (a minute or so into the third period) that Matt Greene has basically played half the game to this point. To paraphrase Lou Reed, somewhere Bergeron's laughing 'til he wets his pants.
A moment in Oilers history: me getting home from the gym tonight just in time to see 5-0 Colorado on the screen."Being down 5-0 the Oilers have to get more shots on the powerplay," says the $11.95 PPV colourman shill, with delusional understatement.
Not quite a tober-loner, but Thorensen scored. What's the deal with short-handed goals + the oil? Go Jussi. Je veux believer.
Wow, this team is POWERFULLY bad.
Thoresen makes it 5-1, finally passing Steve Staios in the goal scoring department. Another fun fact: our entire defence corps in the organization (Staios, Tjarnqvist, Smid, Smith, Greene, Hejda, Roy, Gilbert, Young, Syvret, Bisaillon) has 13 NHL goals this year. Also with 13: Bergeron.
Thor puts the hammer down.
I like Patrick Thoresen.
The radio team just noted, by way of consolation, that nine Oilers have scored their first NHL goals this year, one short of the NHL record for a team. The record, they explained, is held by the 91-92 Sharks. Yes, fans, you remember right: that was their expansion year. They finished 17-58-5, but it will be a year fondly remembered for first-time scorers like Rob Zettler and Mikhail Kravets.
This is fun.
did ched say the oil were one rookie goal away from nhl record for most goals from different rookies? Rumour mill. I'm out in BC and I heard today that Smyth and Lowe have bought the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. BC junior team. I will keep you posted. surpising to me cause I'm on the bad blood side of the fence.
Man, I had something pithy to say, but I lost it. I just don't give a shit anymore. Pull the plug. Let them die. End it, already.
Rumour mill. I'm out in BC and I heard today that Smyth and Lowe have bought the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. BC junior team. I will keep you posted. surpising to me cause I'm on the bad blood side of the fence.WHAT?! Are you serious? Maybe there WAS an under the table deal and Smytty will be back... Maybe it's all an elaborate ruse...Maybe... I'm delusional and feeling sorry for myself because I was at the dabacle tonight and I want my damn gritty winger who actually scores goals back!!
I suppose its kind of disheartening that the best you can do as a die-hard Edmonton fan is cheer for Edmonton to lose so Colorado can beat the Flames out of the playoffs hahaha. How miserable...
I'm from Salmon Arm - Lowe has a summer place on the lake there, so it's certainly not inconceivable that he bought the team. The (former?) owner was Andy Murray. As for the Smyth + Lowe, I would chalk that up to the common sense abilities of the local rumour mongers. Suffice to say that Salmon Arm is boring in the winter.
okay, so, it's sad but true, the greatest two joys of my night:the impressive oilers site headline tonight.and someone other than me saying tober-loner.oh, and getting a sweet coat for cheap at superstore. golorado? indeed.oh, and i hear justin timberlake wrote us this song:it's my puck in a net, my puck in a net oil fanssee i'm smart enough to know, when you need to see a goalbut i've only got the one, to show that we are better than noneyeah it's my puck in a net~kate
To his credit, at least Magni didn't crack a smile after scoring.
I'm more bewildered by the fact that a team from Salmon Arm is named the "Siverbacks." How did this get past the town ridiculers?
Doesn't Smytty also have a place in Salmon Arm... or he's building one? I thought I read that somewhere right around trade time.
"Siverbacks"Or their spell checkers, for that matter.
I was confused by that "Silverbacks" moniker as well, until I remembered the lizard outbreak that hit Salmon Arm a few years back. Seems the townsfolk responded by unleashing wave after wave of Chinese needle snakes to wipe out the lizards. Then they lined up a fabulous type of gorilla that thrives on snake meat, thinking that when wintertime rolled around, the gorillas would simply freeze to death.
Did anyone else catch the latest Sun article on the game? http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Hockey/NHL/Edmonton/2007/03/22/3805148-sun.htmlNot much you couldn't have figured out by reading the comments in this thread or on other blogs, but I thought there was one noteworthy line that made me chuckle... "We got running around in our own zone," said Shawn (minus-3)HorcoffShawn minus-3 Horcoff? I'll give the guy credit when he's due, but that's fucking hilarious-Cam
Yeah, I saw that.Poor Shawn "Minus-3" Horcoff.
From the Journal:"The only Oilers player who might be exempt from contempt this night was Patrick Thoresen, and not only because he scored Edmonton's only goal. The rookie actually skated and competed as if he gave a hoot."I love that guy.
Does Thoresen have any brothers? Hell we'll take his sisters at this point.
Man, th equote from Brunette in that Slam Sports article just makes me want to weep. Thanks guy...wrong foot indeed.
they do both have property in salmon arm. It is dangerous for my emotional state to get excited about things. But if it is true and there is a chance.... lets just say that he does sign back I think K Lowe should still apologize for putting us through this.
Mike W...my fav part from the PPV was the shot of Gene looking at old team photos and saying "it's hard not to get mesmerized by all these old pictures."I mean they're just stretching to come up with stuff at this point. One more PPV game left, ie next Fri in Stl, and I hope the Blues whack us 10-1 and Weight comes on in the second intermission and tells everyone to cheer up because we're in good hands:DRegarding the BC Buds story;), only thing I have add is that I read in a NY Times piece on 94 that the Smyth family has a summer home in BC where they gather for a couple of weeks in the offseason...or when 94 returns home from the world hockey championships...
