Tampa Bay @ Edmonton8pm; TSN, 630 CHEDApropos of our game tonight, everyone should watch this video at least once.GOIL...Well, no. GNOMI!
Lightning is striking
Wow, and I thought the Ulanov video was odd.Nice jacket, Mirtle.
Lou Christie was a pretty handsome fellow. This goof needs a makeup course.Lowetide
I didn't know it was "alienate your readers" week.
Holy. So this means that the Oil will be sexually assaulted by some weird dude with black lips tonight? Also, Pronger broke his toe. Oh well, they weren't real contenders anyway...
If the season ended today we'd have the 7th or 8th overall pick. Is it just a lotto for the top 5 or does it go beyond that?-JC
Asking the Oilers to outplay anyone, even at home ... that seems like a bit much to ask. But the Lightning are still a half game up on the Islanders, so I'm hoping the Oilers can call to a favour from the goalpost and lucky bounce gods tonight.Plus the Lightning played last night. This just might be the "night of the W" here, oiler fans.Unrelated note: When is Tavares draft eligible? 08 or 09? Either way it would be a more positive thing to talk about.
Can someone maybe volunteer to show Vinny a good time, so his transition to Oiler-country will be smooth?
Vic brings up a question that might be worth asking: when exactly will the Oil win again? Also, I can't believe the reaction to Klaus Nomi is so harsh. Does no one appreciate the beauty of a countertenor? If I can't talk about Smytty, there's going to be a lot more posts like these, because God knows I don't want to talk about the Oilers and their ridiculous management, nor their even more ridiculous apologists(by which I refer to Matheson, not Matt).
Holy fucking shit!
"Klaus Nomi" is a name that should belong to some rugged winger for the Blue Jackets, no? It translates into English as "Shane O'Brien."
Why should we watch that video at least once? I'll have nightmares now. Thanks.
That guy's hair is awesome.
On the TSN broadcast, Gord Miller just said, "the rookie-laden Edmonton Oilers." Now, rewind your life 12 months, and imagine hearing that. What would you do? What the hell happened to this team?
Interesting stat related to that: at the end of the first period, with no penalties called, exactly one Oiler forward has more ice time than Kyle Brodziak (Horcoff). It either means he should have been called up much earlier or our team is much worse than even I thought, but either way, it's not a pleasant stat.
Actually I think it means they want to see what Brodziak has so they are going to play the shit out of him. That's not so bad.I mean, its bad because the season is shot but I'd rather see him getting a pile of ice then Peterson or Reasoner or Lupul for that matter. Audition.
I liked Danny Syvret last year and I like him now. A thimble's worth of hope for next year.
And yeah, what happened to Reasoner this season?Oh great, another defenceman goes down.
You watching the game, Winters? You too Grabia?Heh, we're addicts. Bitch and moan and we come back for more.A microcosm of a season gone wrong. Lupul gets the puck at the redline and rather then get it deep, coughs it up and then Tim Taylor (Tim Taylor!) undresses Matt Greene, drawing the inevitable penalty. And now apparently Hejda has a shoulder injury. Who's next on the depth chart? Bryan Young? Cause he's getting the call.
Reasoner looks done. Another thing about this season - injuries. Shaggy basically has been out for the year. Staios and Smid have missed time. Smith has played hurt. Roy and Gilbert are out. And that's just the D. Up front - Smyth, Hemsky (twice), Stoll, Moreau, Reasoner, Pisani - all have missed time - and Pisani and Horcoff have played through assorted ailments. That's lot of injuries.
Cheers, BD.Yeah, I'm watching the game while working on a "Smyth crying at the airport" painting. Surely, I could stand to have a little less Oilers in my life, all things considering... And it's official: Lupul is completely broken. Where's his speed? His brain? Also, that looked a lot like a separated shoulder type deal with Hejda. But I believe Matthieu Descoteaux is available!
I remember thinking last year: why aren't we injured more? It's karmic payback time, I guess, if you believe in that hooey.AAGH! Another goal. Are we WORSE than the Blues this year? Yikes!
Fuck. I'm grabbing a glass of wine...
Well, not many games left. I don't see many anyway so this may be it.Not like last spring.Wow, they may never win another game this season.Lupul is awful but Matt Greene is beyond. Tim Taylor turns him inside out and then a few minutes later Gord Miller describes how Taylor needs hip surgery because he is labouring in terrible pain out there. I wonder if Jason Smith is embittered?
Yep, glass of wine for me too.Looks like we finally have an AHL team. Who knew they'd be playing in Edmonton again?Hejda and Staios out for the game.Holy fucking shit. Its going to be a massacre.
I hope at least that you're Blue Jays fan, BD..."This is great!": How old is that Enterprise car rental commercial? Ugh. Down to FOUR defenceman. 3 goals in five games. Says it all, doesn't it?Shit![sound of cork popping from a wine bottle]
Well, they have one pro Dman left so if nobody is better by next game, I'm not sure what they'll do.Junior callup? Ulanov? (I think I just heard a squee)The kids are trying. Brodziak looks fine. Horc and Torres have shown up.But Sykora? Lupul? Meh.Yeah, I'll wander down to the Dome for a few games this summer I think. What I am looking forward to - we have a babysitter finally (neither of us have family here) so we're actually going to be able to go out regularly this summer.
Healey just said the Oilers were mediocre but he pronounced it mediawker.Fucking dummy.
The TSN question should have been "Which of these UFAs would deign to sign for the Oilers, if any?"As for baseball, at least the Blue Jays have a shot this year. I think. The lawyering Mudcrutch and I had plans to catch a game last year (I don't think he actually sleeps, by the way), but it might be fun to have a "Toronto Friends of the Oilogosphere" baseball night during the playoffs.
Thoresen: just can't handle the puck at high speeds.
I met your man Mudcrutch last Saturday. Actually saw him naked as well.I would agree - I believe he does not sleep. He sure works hard at the lawyering. Plenty of good lawyering jobs on Yonge Street. Doctoring too.Yeah, he was talking about getting everyone together to watch an Oilers' game. There aren't many left.Baseball sounds good to me.Or just drinking.
Actually the game I saw at the ACC Thoresen looked pretty good. Of course that team had Smyth, Hemsky, Reasoner, Staios and Hejda on it.But they also had Greene, Lupul and Peterson so they were pretty mediawker.Stupid Bombardier. Hey, I think I'll go and buy a subway car.Trying to convince us they deserve all the corporate welfare bucks I guess.
Plenty of good lawyering jobs on Yonge Street. Doctoring too.Ah, you reference "Goin' Down the Road" (or possibly the SCTV parody) my favourite Canadian movie ever. I watched it the night before I moved here, and have seen it many times...I'm game for a pint. But no nudity: I'm "saving it" for a tasteful spread in next year's Hot Off.Nadir of the evening: Gord Miller saying "The Oilers should sign (Ryan) Richaud!"
The SCTV parody. Never saw 'Goin Down The Road' although I am aware of it.I'm always game for a pint. I've had a pretty good run of drinking the past few weeks so I'm going to lay low for the next week or so - then I say we do it.The nudity was tasteful and necessary - post hockey showering.Dan Boyle. He'd look good in copper and blue.Man, do I ever hate Matt Greene right now. That's not healthy.
>Dan Boyle. He'd look good in copper and blue.Hell, in a better managed world, he'd already be a rental Oiler on trade day.
Matt Greene can bench press 400 pounds but he can't stop Tim Taylor.Maguire is a weirdo. He was working out with him?
GOOOOAAAALLLLLL@@@@@@@@@!!!!!!!!!Maguire apparently works 7 days a week, dishing out prizes from his big bag of Monster Player Awards. Clearly, he's WAY too into hockey.
And it's over.
Meh and that's it.Part of me can't believe I stayed up for this. My son is teething. I had two hours of sleep on Monday night. But it was alright. Will they win another game though? Oh boy.Good night and ...
All right, it's been a pleasure, BD.Back to the "art project."
Little creeped out about BD seeing mudcrutch naked ... being in this blog tonight is like being in a bar, looking around, and realizing there are NO women (what kind of bar/blog is this?) lol :)
Yeah, I can understand pulling the 'chute, but man, this is like watching someone put puppies in a blender. Whats the over/under for wins the rest of the way? 3? 4?
Yep, tonight had all the ear marks of a couple of barflys holding out until last call amid stacked stools at Pauper's Pub.Personally, I think the Oilers quality of play is really to blame. (Although two fans chatting on a blog is about average for Flames fans WHEN THEY ARE WINNING. Heckuva town down south. I've always had a suspicion that, deep down, they secretly want to be Vancouver, but they'd never admit it.)
>this is like watching someone put puppies in a blender. Ha ha. Zinger of the night.
I miss the score predictions of hattricks by Smyth. Or the score predictions in general. Is it really over? Nothing left to hope for?...Think Islanders will make it past the first round?
http://oilfans.com/draftPickStandings.phpWhy is everyone so down? The drive to the top five is going down without a hitch!!How the hell did we go from Pronger - SmithStaios - SpacekBergeron - Tarnstrom to a potential line-up of Smith - SmidGreene - SyvretYoung - Peterson in less than a year?
The "cost of doing business"?I mean, wow. It's weird to see how bad that looks once it's on paper. I say bring it on: the worse the better! I'm gonna get all Russian-like till the end of the season.(a good start: half a bottle wine down the hatch)
That really wasn't terrible. Tampa has been a really good team since Christmas, Vinny is obviously a stud. The Isles could get by the first round if they get Atlanta, Pittsburgh, maybe Carolina, or one of the teams currently out of the 8th spot, like the Rangers or Montreal.
The playoffs are always a bit of a coin toss. Which is why I hate missing them so bad.
A quick check of the Coiler website reveals they are in the midst of the season ticket renewal drive. Wonder if recent actions will affect the bottom line? I was a season ticket holder during many dark years but I would have definitley pulled the plug after this year's antics. If anyone knows an actual season ticket holder who canceled b/c of the trade and general incompetence of the K-Lowe Klaque, could you let us know? Would be interesting.Duke
Nice jacket, Mirtle.Huh?
You watching the game, Winters? You too Grabia?Heh, we're addicts. Bitch and moan and we come back for more. Not me, suckers. I watched for a bit, as filler until another show came on. Felt nice not caring at all. Then I switched the channel, and 1/2 hour later I went to bed. Ahhhhhhh. Feeling good this morning.Nice jacket, Mirtle.Oh, we know James. We know all.
Ooh, you have to check out the front page of the Oilers page today. I'VE RENEWED!!! And what? I can get the Peter Nedved and Toby Petersen wallpaper I've been dying for all year? Yes! This is awesome!
