Somebody has to say it...

A 5-1 spanking by the worst team in the Western Conference, who by the way were on a five-game losing skid of their own. Two goals in the last two games, both by Toby "Heart & Soul" Petersen, both shorthanded. And oh yeah: our number one defenceman tonight, according to minutes played, was Danny Syvret.

Anyone want to start a pool to predict when the Oil will win again? Dibs on October.

PS: I wasn't joking when I said in the comments on the last post that I want someone to run Petersen's SHP/60 against his PPP/60.

Here's the real question. Who will WANT to play in Edmonton? I can see UFAs taking un-hometown discounts to stay away. We are on the verge of dynasties for teams that don't have natural ICE.

Wow lookit them penalty minutes and EV minuses.

oilers lose 5-1, the goal a tober-loner (my new word for a game where our only goal(s) is/are by #20)shorthander. the headline on the oilers site: "Petersen Shorthander not Enough". no. freaking. kidding.
one other tidbit: 3 goals in four games. 2 by petersen. 1 by smid. i bet we would lose to wilkes-barre too.

I love that headline. It's almost as if one more goal would've broken the game wiiiide open... As opposed to the 5 required to win.

On the bright side, if we lost to Wilkes-Barre, it might encourage them to call Schremp up.

That headline is just perfect. You can replace "Petersen shorthander" with just about anything and it makes almost as much sense.

"AHL Defencemen Not Enough"
"Pisani Milliions Not Enough"
"Kool-Aid Swilling Fan Base Not Enough"
"Simpson Axe Body Spray Not Enough"
"Daylight Saving Time Not Enough"

So someone crunch the numbers: standings-wise, how low can we go? If can we can get down to No. 27 or 28 overall I think we'll get a decent draft pick AND get Lowe fired, which is all the upside we can hope for now.

Hi guys and gals. I'm just on my way to renew my season tix before the rush and thought I'd pop in. (I've heard that Stoll is buying up whole sections :0 )

The Oilers played great tonight but were totally jobbed by the refs. Great effort by the boys! And am I the only one that thinks Joffrey is about to pick up this team onto his shoulders and carry them! I can just sense it, man.

Earlier today I was making a list of all the big name UFAs that would be a great fit here! (assuming they are willing to take a significant pay cut to play here, and I can't see why they wouldn't) And I got so damn excited that I literally shat myself!!!1!!11

I still believe. GOILERS!

Just looking through the standings, I think it MIGHT just be possible for Edmonton to lose every single one of its remaining games. Even the other craptacular teams at least have some offensive and defensive ability. Number 1 draft pick en route!

Unfortunately, even though we are the most craptaculastic team in the league right now, I don't see us beating Philly in the draft rankings. They just have too much of a head start.

Oh well--there's always next year to get that #1! Right, Craig, Kevin, Cal, and Joffrey?

What's the status on the season series against Philly? It's still possible to force points down their throats. And I think theyre 3-1-1 with Biron in net.

If Edmonton loses every game they're pegged for 66 points.

Flyers are pegged for 61, that being said, the Flyers are -1 in their last month and a half with a a 4-6 (w-l) 3-5 (otw-otl) record (19/18), or close to 50%. If they can play @ 50% the rest of the season (1.1points/game) they'll have 64|65 points. The last three games at home against teams that are already in the playoffs could get them the additional points...

Most likely Edmonton will get 2-4th pick.
