Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Meet Calgary's new coach. Apparently he made the cut.

Let this be the beginning of a year that makes up for the last.

Also, weirdly: Oilers assistant GM Scott Howson is now GM of the Columbus Blue Jackets. I did not know he was that highly regarded. Or what he looked like, come to think of it. I have no idea how to take this news.

But Keenan: I might start cheering for the Flames, that's so fantastic. I hope he makes GM before Kiprusoff becomes a free agent.

(PS: We're still doing Edmonton street hockey every second weekend. E-mail below if you want the details.)

oh my god that's ridiculous.

The Oilers could let Lauren Pronger and Ty Conklin coach 41 games each next year, and not cripple their team as badly as Calgary just crippled theirs.

Also, my verification image says "moronit". Even Blogger agrees with me.

C'mon guys, the Flames have shown repeatedly that they thrive playing under coaches/gms who put their players under extreme pressure, call players out in public after bad games, play strict defensive systems with no room for improvisation, and who just generally foam at the mouth a lot.

Sutter just made it pretty tough to sign all of his free agents. Goodbye Tanguay.

I love how Keenan's head in your picture is just so much larger than everyone else's.

poetic: now his team has to play luongo eight times this year. roberto's probably grinning ear to ear.

Speaking of road hockey: any Vancouver-based Oil fans/Edmonton ex-pats/CinO readers interested in starting up a regular game on the wet coast? Lemme know.

Iron Mike's visage had to be increased a touch to account for the fact that Daryl Sutter severely outranks him in the "iron-fisted assholes who have hair" category.

You mean like in 2004? When we were one game away from winning the cup?

Sutter just made it pretty tough to sign all of his free agents. Goodbye Tanguay.

Tanguay isn't a free agent.

The Flames have shown repeatedly over the last 5 years that they play better when given more freedom on the ice. So who does Sutter hire? The only available coach who gives his players less freedom on the ice than he did.

What Flames team are you watching? That's what they tried to do last year, and it was an unmitigated disaster.

Maybe you and Mike W should have a "who knows the least about hockey" competition. I thought Mike "why is there a trapezoid" W would run away with it, but now I'm not so sure.

Hey McLea, welcome back! Always a pleasure.

How's that blog of yours coming along, by the way? It seems such a shame to waste all your indignant, antagonistic sputtering in the comments sections of blogs about teams you hate.

Hahahaha, as soon as I read who would be coaching the Shames, I couldn't stop laughing. In fact, I've been periodically giggling about it all day with my fellow Oilers fans/Canadians/Shames haters/hockey fans in general/my brother who knows nothing about Keenan but thinks he looks like a complete asshole. Perhaps my bro is smarter than I give him credit for. It's been really fun.

Well... when's the trapezoid debate going down?

If Iron Mike's previous three jobs are any indication, this should at least be a pleasing season for Oiler fans on one level. If KLowe can make some quality acquisitions in the offseason, it might be 2/2.

I laughed very hard when Playfair was named coach, this only got a chuckle out of me. I guess we'll see who gets the last laugh.

Nobody, anywhere, ever wants to have to cheer for the success of Mike Keenan. Win the cup, if you want: we'll see how you deal the horrible reality of having to be happy for Mike Keenan. It's like cheering for the Syracuse Bulldogs. No one can actually enjoy that.
