New duds a dud

At the risk of sounding like a crank, I hate all change. Especially with sports uniforms. I'm still convinced that the Blue Jays lost something (balls? dignity?) when they dropped that weird 1970s font from their uniform and added an over-sized cartoon bird as their logo.

Apropos of aesthetic cringing: more and more of these new Reebok Edge jerseys are being revealed throughout the summer, with the Islanders' latest threads popping up on blogs in the last few days. Based on what we've seen so far, Oilers fans can look forward to the prospect of ice-white piping along the shoulders of what will essentially look like the team's practice jersey. Hoo-ray! But hey, at least the logo is going to stay the same (the Original 6 teams seem to have it right: other than slight modifications, their jerseys will look the same).

I might be alone on this, but the new Reebok uniforms seem insubstantial somehow, like EA Sports' default uniforms for custom leagues rather than real professional threads. Then again, what do I know? Last year the Sabres garish new top featuring the infamous Buffaslug went on to lead the league in sales.

Personally, I really like the new Washington sweaters; however, I think that's because it is a return to the stylings of their original jerseys.

The "new" Cap jerseys are sick wicked.

Who are the ad wizards who came up with this one?

Quit bitchin' about change ... its inevitable.

Just don't screw with the Oilers logo and you will all get used to it.

... whatever

Not crazy about the Islanders jersey. I do like the number on the front idea, but the sleeves in blocked colors are ugly.
Panthers one not bad at all.
Agree, the Capitals one is pretty sweet.

That Capitals jersey stinks. It's trying to look like the old one, but it isn't even close to as good as the one Rod Langway wore.

Jesus do I love those old Capitals jerseys.

No shit, those Capitals home jerseys were one of the best in the league.

I also think the L.A. Kings 1970s away jersey is underrated.

And oh yeah... As part of "research," I found this ridiculous site:

Somewhat unrelated note ...

I love how the Oilers had their 'Garage' Sale at the end of last year. Plus, the 2 for 1 jerseys at the end of the year.

(AKA - dump the old unis before the new ones come out)

Can't believe all the suckers lined up for that. Now you're all gonna have to get another jersey this year!

The Caps new jersey's are fantastic. Now the Sabres need to bring back the old Logo full-time. Looks like scissors rather than sabres!

I'm with ya Mike. I hate change! Can't we just keep things the same? They're just doing this to make money. It's a cash grab...make us fans buy the new jerseys!

I'm not attached to the '70s aesthetic, but the Caps have certainly never come up with anything better. They're cursed as regards unis; same as the Canucks, I guess. Not that the Oilers' dark blue and (at the time) fluorescent orange was a colour scheme you saw on the runways too often. I've also always liked the Kings jersey with the coat of arms.

So don't buy the new jerseys. I still like my orange and navy blue one best anyway.

Keep in mind - nobody from Buffalo has good taste.

It will always be the vintage away jersey for me!

The oil should look at changin there logo and maybe even there name. It just sounds bush when you say "oiler". Little things like that come into play when decidin where I want to play.

The thing about going retro with the RBK Edge unis is that a lot of teams are making the bottoms curved, so any horizontal stripes at the bottom will look like tube socks. The new Red Wings jerseys look like a freaking polo shirt because of the bottoms.

Also, the Sabres unis led the league in sales because of the third jersey was the throwback. Trust me, that was the one you couldn't get a hold of around here.

the kids over at 'Ble, Blanc et Rouge' have the most up-to-date list/photos of the new RBK jerseys as they've been rolling out:

i'm actually not minding the Caps jerseys, the 'futuristic' update to the original wordmark is tons better than that crappy bronze & blue eagle/capital building shite they've been using. as for the Panths and Isles, well, they look like clowns. I actually miss the old Isles 'Captain Highliner' look more and more each day:

SOME of the new RBK's actually look pretty darn good, especially the Bruins. they've tweaked the logo ever so slightly, and the shoulder patches are superyum:

Other positives include a change to the logo and jersey of the Lightning, easily the assiest costumes in the whole league:

I'm not worried at all about the Oilers new duds, when we finally see them. i don't think there'll be ANY extraneous piping, in fact i think our jerseys willl look a lot like what we have been wearing - stripes on the sleeves and bottom, no extra crap along the shoulders at all. clean and simple.

re: Tampa Bay. I don't know, I liked the unpretentious use of MS-Paint to create the old logo. It was really down to earth, no high-falutin' designers etc. I'm sure they would have used the Comic Sans font if they had been more familiar with the program.

Sadly, I bet you're right.

Am I the only one who liked the landing eagle the Capitals had? And the blue/black color scheme?
I can't see how going back to the jerseys they wore while going 9-71 is a way to grow the fan base.

Enough with the hockey already. This is the week all of Canada cares way too much about tennis. Or haven't you seen the papers lately?

I miss the Isle's old fisherman jersey. I've always hated this logo they have no, and the blocky arms do nothing to help that.

All three of these jerseys look really plain, really blocky. I like this Caps logo the best, but couldn't they through in some blue and white stripes?

I miss the old Jays logo...

I'm pissed that the Wild have decided to dump the green sweaters in favor of the red ones. Not cool.

If it's true that the Wild are changing from green to red, that's too bad. That hunter green is a good color.
