At the risk of sounding like a crank, I hate all change. Especially with sports uniforms. I'm still convinced that the Blue Jays lost something (balls? dignity?) when they dropped that weird 1970s font from their uniform and added an over-sized cartoon bird as their logo.
Apropos of aesthetic cringing: more and more of these new Reebok Edge jerseys are being revealed throughout the summer, with the Islanders' latest threads popping up on blogs in the last few days. Based on what we've seen so far, Oilers fans can look forward to the prospect of ice-white piping along the shoulders of what will essentially look like the team's practice jersey. Hoo-ray! But hey, at least the logo is going to stay the same (the Original 6 teams seem to have it right: other than slight modifications, their jerseys will look the same).
I might be alone on this, but the new Reebok uniforms seem insubstantial somehow, like EA Sports' default uniforms for custom leagues rather than real professional threads. Then again, what do I know? Last year the Sabres garish new top featuring the infamous Buffaslug went on to lead the league in sales.
