Absurdly late, pitiful Game Day thread

No TV, no web stream, just the rising intonation of Rod Phillips' voice as he mispronounces Grebeshkov's name as the defenceman cuts to the net.

Coach MacTavish has issued Matt Greene a special challenge to keep his penalty minutes to just under half a game, Schremp will either do something or get cut soon, and we will get to see more goodness from Robert Nilsson and Kyle Brodziak. Marc Pouliot has to keep up if he wants to make the opening day lineup. Fun Nugget: Calgary has only won a single Stanley Cup.

Goil.

ONLY a single stalney cup???

lets run down the teams whove NEVER won a cup:

nashville, ottawa senators (the new version), la kings, sj sharks, vancouver canuckleheads, columbus blue jackets, minnesota wild/north stars, phoenix coyotes, buffalo, atlanta, florida panthers, washington caps, st. louis

that's a fuckton of teams whove never won a cup. no, i'd say that calgary's title of stanley cup champions is nothing 2 sneeze at and certainly nothing 2 be ashamed of.

More Battle of Alberta facts:

Housing prices in Alberta's largest cities skyrocketed in 2006, with an average residential property jumping 49 per cent in Edmonton and 38 per cent in Calgary over the year... making the Edmonton Oilers the Stanley Cup Champions of HOUSING PRICES.

Nilsson to Torres to Stoll! Zipp!

Anyone know why there's no web feed?

I went through the CI sched and I didn't find any Oilers games at all.

LJ

P.S. Thanks for Chris! for the tech support the other night. I caught the Van/Edm game. Looks like maybe the only one of the entire pre-season. :(

a ROCKET from Tanguay!!

this is gonna get ugly for the away team. :)

Another BoA fact-blast:

Ottawa's decision to tax energy trusts really hurt junior oil venture income trusts which are -- need I say it? -- mostly based in Calgary. Swoosh! IN THE NET!!

POOOOOULIOOOOOOOT

Pouliot absolutely hacks into Kiprusoff's mainframe and scores!

2-2

Good work, kid.

First guess is that if Sportsnet ain't covering it, it's not on TV anywhere.

Also, could be a blackout.

James L. said...

Darn that Pouliot! Just when we were all writing him off for good...

mike w said...

The PK is a slick, well-oiled machine tonight, no?

(Yes, I'm at work and yes I am bored).

That's what we get for losing Pisani and not having a viable replacement.

Despite the fact that the vast majority of oil assets are situated closer to Edmonton. I wonder how that happened? Maybe we should ask one of the 50,000 Oiler fans that have abandoned this great province to shack up in the Centre of the Universe.

Another breakaway generously served by the Calgary D.

I'm sorry McLea, are you trying to make an actual point about Income Trusts??

HORCOFF WITH THE SHORTY!!!!

Looks like McLea caught himself halfway through one of his patented spazzouts and thought better of it.

It's for the best, buddy.

mike w said...

Horcoff! Assist to Nilsson!

Rod Phillips: "I'll tell you what, these Oilers rookies are having some kind of game!"

That's a warm fuzzy feeling right there.

mike w said...

Another PP goal for the Flames. Quite the barn burner here.

NILSON ties it up!!

Chris! said...

Shit. Quite the see-saw battle we got going on here.

And what's the boxing-ring announcer? Does the Flames guy always sound like this?

Chris! said...

AAH! I'm going to throw every fucking idiot who had a part in this goddamned "answering machine" Molson commercial right into the sun. My GOD are radio ads annoying.

What's unusual about it, Chris? I'm not sure what about him strikes you as strange.

mike w said...

I hear you Chris.

Makes me want to wait outside the offices of 630 CHED on 5204 - 84th Street and slap the Sales Manager Peter Wilkes across the back of the head.

Thank you for reminding us of more teams who, like Calgary, can't boast the Oilers championship history.

there can only be one Nils(s)on NHLer in Alberta.

FIGHT TO THE DEATH!

To the first post, not every team has been around as long as the Flames.

Two Swedes in a deathcage bout?

That would be a LOT of stickwork, slew-footing, and slapping....

What's this nonsense about Moreau being hurt?? It says at edmontonoilers.com that he's out due to injury on the game summary.

Haven't been listening, but what happened?

mike w said...

Greene gets the late-game penalty, of course.

Fucking Matt Greene. TRADE HIS ASS FOR A 6TH ROUND PICK ALREADY.

COGOALIANO!

HBomb said...

A bad Phaneuf pinch leads to a 4-on-2 which leads to Cogliano scoring his 2nd of the game, the OT winner.

That would be the proverbial "fuck you" to fever4falmes. I'm betting we don't see him again tonight, it's probably past his bedtime anyways....

And yes, it's just preseason. But it's a win over Calgary with Phaneuf looking stupid over the winner. I'll take that be it preseason, regular-season, postseason, or off-season....

d said...

More fun nuggets! More!

Black Dog said...

So, Cogliano now leads the derby, I guess.

The Oilers apparently have a few good young players - c'est possible?

Rod said...

Moreau took a shot "off the laces". Not sure if that's what knocked him out or not.

Gnash said...

Hmm. So, do we see Cogliano between Hemsky and Penner in Phoenix?

The forward lines are actually looking ok if Nilsson can continue strong play and Brodziak or Pouliot can claim a spot.

Defence.. man I don't know what to say.

oilspill said...

Well, I'm just glad he didn't throw out his shoulder again on a bad punch.

Dana said...

Yeah Moreau was icing his foot after he got hit...probably nothing too serious.

looks like fever4flames has disappeared lol

oilspill said...

Brodziak = -2 for the night (the only Oiler in the negatives) and 0 points.

Did he just fuck himself out of a job or am I just being an alarmist?

a new mike w said...

Grebeshkov was +3 and a point tonight... Brodziak was -2, zero points.

Quite the reversal.

mike w said...

Sounds like most of the kids played well, especially 5 on 5. I wouldn't sound the alarm over a -2 rating.

oilspill said...

Maybe a reversal for Brodziak, but certainly NOT a reversal for Grebs, who had 1 G and was +1 in the game against Toronto.

I only sound the alarm because Brodziak was the only player on the team to wind up in the negatives tonight.

Schremp was nowhere man yet again, by the scoreboard. He was more exciting when he was still a complete asshole.

oilspill said...

But I really do feel like we have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to prospects. Cogs was beautiful tonight. Looks like we'll have a breakout year for rookies.

Lady_Byng said...

Man, that made me laugh! I agree 100% with that with statement!

Nice to hear that Cogs scored two goals, he had/has great speed in the pre-season so far; I was fearing that he would turn into another Marchant. (All speed but no hands.) A big THANK-YOU to Phaneuf for pulling retard in OT. :D

Oilinator said...

Sarich and Phanuef combined -4...but all the falmes fans are happy to see Hammer go....hahahahhahaha

(Sidenote... Souray...+2)

This changes everyhour in my head... not that MacT is listening but this is where it sits right now.

If Cogliano can get some Chemistry with the top guys:

Cogliano-Penner-Hemsky
Stoll-Torres-Nilsson
Horcoff-Moreau-Brodziak
Reasoner-Stortini-Sanderson
Pouliot, Thoreson, jacques, Schremp fighting for the press box

Souray-Staios
Pitkanen-Tarnstrom
Smid-Grebs
Greene

Baroque said...

Glad to see Cogliano did well. I always root for guys who played their college hockey in Michigan. :)

And since the North Stars went to Dallas, don't they get some credit for the Cup the Dallas Stars won? At least they shouldn't be lumped in with the Wild.

Anonymous said...

Don't worry about Schremp not being a complete asshole anymore. According to the staff at a popular drinking establishment - he got in a fistfight with (get this) the bathroom attendant and called him *ahem* the N-word. Sadly there are no photos this time.

Santa Merda said...

I enjoyed the fun nugget very much.

:)

And I also enjoyed the fact that we won.

It always warms my heart to check the scores in the morning and find that that Oilers beat the Shames. I like it better when they slaughter them, but a win's a win.
