Evil Leafs blow into town: the game day thread

Now that we've all smoked a collective cigarette after last night's Moreau-Reasoner-Brodziak performance, it's time to move on to tonight's game with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the future Stanley Cup Champions of the World. We'll get a good look at Robert Nilsson, Anson Carter and new acquisition Mathieu Garon. I didn't get the impression that Denis Grebeshkov played all that well last night, but some of us lucky Toronto folk will get a "saw him good" second look tonight on LEAFS TV.

Here's the rosters, hot off the web:

Edmonton Oilers Lineup

14 Raffi Torres - 16 Jarret Stoll - 12 Robert Nilsson
8 Geoff Sanderson - 13 Andrew Cogliano - 78 Marc Pouliot
58 Slava Trukhno - 10 Shawn Horcoff - 33 Anson Carter

55 Adam Huxley - 42 Jonas Almtorp - 46 Zack Stortini

5 Ladislav Smid - 2 Matt Greene

40 Danny Syvret - 24 Steve Staios

26 Denis Grebeshkov - 36 Mathieu Roy

32 Mathieu Garon (starting goaltender)

1 Devan Dubnyk (will play second half)

Toronto Maple Leafs Lineup

23 Alexei Ponikarovsky - 42 Kyle Wellwood - 16 Darcy Tucker
39 Simon Gamache - 14 Matt Stajan - 48 Jeremy Williams

41 Jiri Tlusty - 18 Chad Kilger - 20 Tony Salmelainen
26 Ben Ondrus - 54 Kris Newbury - 3 Wade Belak

24 Bryan McCabe - 8 Carlo Colaiacovo
15 Tomas Kaberle - 2 Bryan Muir

43 Jay Harrison - 38 Derrick Walser

29 Justin Pogge (will play full game)

GOIL.

Would it be safe to say we'll probably see a couple of fiery scraps this game?

To think that we spent the last quarter of the season icing an even worse defensive lineup than this, our pre-season B-list.

Tonight is Pouliot's night; I can feel it all around me. 6-2 Oilers with 2G, 2A from MAP.

Isn't Wade Belak a D-man? Is TO more desperate for wingers than we are?

Alana said...

What channel is leafs tv?

mike w said...

Rogers Digital Cable: CH 414, in TO.

Chris! said...

Belak has also played stints as a fourth-line winger in his career. Much like Bert Robertsson. Or, uh, Steve Staios.

HOTT! Hockey TONIGHT!

Toronto. Didn't they used to be good? Are they resting Mahovlich tonight?

mike w said...

Do I see Toronto jerseys in the warm-up crowd? That makes me want to vomit.

mike w said...

Jesus, Roy just got his head split open.

Hey, this online dealy is pretty slick. Too bad about the announcers.

Black Dog said...

online where?

mike w said...

Anson Carter, um.

gary b said...

the ghost of Glenn Fisher is felt at Rexall Place once again (thank you yahoo.com)

sacamano said...

here

Just go to the Center Ice tab at the top right.

mike w said...

online where?

NHL Centre Ice, free preview, I believe.

mike w said...

Okay the PA is playing Queens of the Stone Age and The Strokes, and NO "Cotton-Eyed Joe."

The regular sound guy must be sick or something.

Black Dog said...

Got it - thanks.

Anybody know whether they are ever going to make this online thing available to us poor Oiler souls overseas? I'm trying to log in to the new system but no luck, something about not having the right URL - anyone?

Black Dog said...

Going all the way this year boys.

I''ll start planning the parade.

James L. said...

Who scored and who got the assists? TSN sez Trukhno but it gave BOTH assists to Glenn Fisher. WTF.

Alana said...

Did that guy just call Matt Greene a "good looking" young Oiler? Pffft.

Black Dog said...

Try this - http://oilers.nhl.tv/team/console

Make sure its maximized and then click on the top right Centre Ice thingy. Then you should be alright.

mike w said...

Torres and Horc. Torres seems to have a new gear this year. He made the play.

Black Dog said...

Greene in the box - never seen that one before.

mike w said...

Okay, seriously: Leafs fans blow. They have a gift for being obnoxious in other team's buildings.

sacamano said...

If you are overseas you might be screwed because it will recognize that you aren't in Canada and so ineligible to get the feed.

I had this problem last year when I wanted to watch TSN's coverage of the Brier.

The solution is to find a proxy server that will make it look like your IP address is coming from Canada rather than overseas. I can't remember which one I used, but they do exist.

sacamano said...

Is Daum in charge of our useless powerplay this year or is Simpson still running it from the CBC booth?

James L. said...

Darn. Stuck in NYC.

No Oilers TV for me until Christmas.

mike w said...

But the PP is full of decidedly non-PP players.

Thanks Black Dog from overseas guy, I tried that address but still no go. What the NeuLion-NHL press release said about this back in July was that this would be "without geographic restriction", so I jumped for joy, but maybe they are still either trying to roll this out, or maybe only no restrictions within North America.

Black Dog said...

Hard to say overseas guy - I was in the States for the final game of the Super Series and I could not get it but they told me on the site that it was due to copyright stuff - if you're getting no actual message you may be right - they may be still ironing out the bugs.

mike w said...

Oh yes I remember the new NHL: phantom penalties and huge dives the moment an a player touches an opponent.

Alana said...

Considering they've been down one player most of this game, (this version of) the Oil is looking pretty sharp. Lots of good backchecking and solid chances. Hot!

Chris! said...

Hey guys, what'd I miss? Excitement, I bet!

Oh wait. Another penalty.

SCOOOOOORRRRRRCOFF

Horc-o-tron! Man, it's nice to silence LEAFS Nation(TM).

mike w said...

Grebeshkov, after about 4 miserable passes to start off OT, scores the winner! Cogliano's speed makes the play.

Nice.

gary b said...

Joe Bowen - who'd you buy that hairdo off of?

Lady_Byng said...

God I HATE, HATE, HATE, HATEEEEEEEEEE Leafs fans. They are the most obnoxious people EVER.
On that note, it was nice to shut them up with a win. Sure, it's only pre-season, but it's still satisfying to see their idiotic fans mute after the OT win.
Nice job boys.

Greener is up to his old tricks taking 3 penalties in a game. Granted, they must teach diving 101 in Toronto's training camp, but he's gotta learn to control his stick better.

Horcoff is looking good, here's hoping for a career season from him.

That is all,

Greene is crap as usual and yes Leaves' fans are annoying. I was happy to see the Oilers pull this out! I hate those damn Leaves!

Andy Grabia said...

Cogliano's speed makes the play.

That's hilarious. I saw that highlight and thought, "he really is Todd Marchant."

Nice Leafs logo, btw. Just noticed the text now.

im back with a new post.

A chronology of COILERS catastrophes

did i miss anything?

Pleasure Motors said...

That's a parody site, right?

Chris! said...

I'm assuming it is. Not that I give much credit to fever4flames, but yeah.

rickibear said...

Fever4Flames: I looked back at the Flames last thirty years to see what they had developed or earned on there own. The only answer I Could come up with was Lanny's moustache. He grew that on his own. The Cup was a gift.

Sorry for not ignoring you.

But this may be your year. Good Luck with your season.

leafs tv is like watching the cbc. super gay.

Am I the only who thinks the world is a better place when the Oilers wear white at home?

mike w said...

You are not the only one.

It would be nice now that are no longer third jerseys (for now, of course) to have teams switch back to the white/home rule.
