Crack open the beers: Game Day!

When you think of Philadelphia, you think of only two things and two things only: poverty and murder.

But they also have a hockey team called the Flyers, who are taking on the Oilers over at Rexall tonight.

The matchup features the emotional return of some newly exed ex-Oilers, fan favourite and one-shot scorer Joffrey Lupul and some other dude named Jason Smith, who apparently once skippered this team once. This will also be the second game featuring the 6 pack of kids born after Thriller, still in need of a decent nickname (The Kidziaks? Oil Spuzzlets? Neoilers? Brodliano Gagsson? PeachFuzz McSpeedersons?)
Oh and if you want to see this match-up, fork over $12.95, as it's only on PPV (with luck, you may find it on P2P TV).
GOIL.

I assume that it's on CI.

Yep. Is it blacked out in Alberta, though?

MARTY!

I'm desperately trying to find this game online because I'm at work.

If the NHL had its druthers (sadly, as we all know, the NHl does not have it druthers) they'd offer a password for cable subscribers for the online version of Centre Ice.

I may have to do my old avoid all things hockey and watch the recorded version when I get home...

they are showing the dressing room on ppv... very nice room.

Gene P. is back for another season of ppv. the production quality is the same... the sound has cut out a few times already... they are recycling the in-Rexall video intro for the ppv intro.

Gene is so lame as the front-liner. He's not bad when he's the ice-level or a features guy, but as the main man, he's weak...

Morley and Rob Brown doing the play-by-play. All this talent for only $12.95!!

While the ppv has gone black for a few minutes, I can add that Joffrey had an excruciatingly painful interview with Gene. When asked "in one word, how would you describe your season with the Oilers", Joffrey replied "Over"!

Souray gets the mic tonight.

Exciting ppv features this year include a feature on the Oilers rookies in yellowknife. I can't wait for that one!

Hey, the signal is back!

mike w said...

Yep. From what I've seen around the league, Oilers PPV isn't exactly top shelf.

Rumour has it that the game is on channel 28700 (VPA) found in the p2p in the post...

Mike- if ANYONE has access to the online free CI preview (and isn't blacked out) - please open the game with Firefox, right click the small box and choose "properties" and copy/paste the mms:// link that it shows. We should be able to just plug that into Windows Media player and watch away. Please post anyone outside the blackout.

Channel 28700 won't buffer fully for me :(

Holy shit! Sounds like someone stole Rod's meds before the game. That's the craziest I've ever heard him get on that save on Cogliano.

Steve said...

I was thinking the same thing. But this sort of apparent dementia is part of why I listen to Rod. Don't ever retire, Rod. Ever.

Steve said...

And man, is Jason Gregor ever no Morley Scott. Morley would have noticed that Rod had forgotten to mention the interference call on Philly, and would have worked it in. Gregor just let the powerplay go unknown to anybody who didn't happen to hear the arena announcement.

Here's how it works, Jason: Rod's job is to make us regret that we're not watching what is evidently the most exciting game in hockey history, and the colour guy's job is to tell us what's actually happening.

On another note, this game sounds like the most exciting in hockey history.

Devin said...

LOL - ok, after some social engineering with the call center rep for NHL.tv I've unlocked my CI feed. But instead of just letting the TV sound play, they've superimposed Rod's voice (loudly) on top. Problem is Rod is a minute or so ahead of the video. I can't believe they charge for this. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers. PS- Souray just had a horrible shift, but the Oil are dominating.

lots of shots, no finish so far. all lines seem to be clicking, just need that first goal to get going.

mark sholtz provided us with the first info-mercial of the year -- oil king tickets! come get 'em! why do we get commercials on ppv? can someone explain that to me??

Pitkanen is a force tonight. He is embarrassing his old team. Jaw-dropping plays.

DUSTIN CHECKS IN!!!

The cable package that Leah just ordered up has a channel that's just Leafs all the time. Shudder.

THREE things.

Fans also turn on their home teams like a nest of rabid vipers.

(Football fans are especially notorious.)

OILERS!!!! How was the game boys? And what happened on the Cogliano save?

Chris said...

Is it too soon to start planning a parade route? In all seriousness though, there is no way this team is half as bad as many of the talking heads have pegged them as being. The young guys have looked brilliant so far.

sacamano said...

Looks like Lowe isn't as green as he is cabbage looking.

The new bodies have been running the show out there. Penner, Pitapocket, Sanderson, Souray were all dynamite tonight.

Andy Grabia said...

Let's be honest here though, Sac. There's no way he could have known Cogs, Gags and Brodziak would be ready. I'm willing to give credit where it is due, but I think the play of the kids has been a surprise to all.

cogs couldnt lift it high enough, beauty play, lucky save for biron

sacamano said...

Grabia,

Did you think that when I wrote: "Penner, Pitapocket, Sanderson, Souray were all dynamite tonight
that I actually meant to write "Cogs, Gags and Brodziak were all dynamite tonight", only I horribly misspelled their names?

Andy Grabia said...

No, but none of those guys look as good if they are surrounded by three Jani Ritas.

Wow, what a great game. Watched it on Centre Ice, and it was the best game I've seen in a while. Oil looked great, probably the best Oilers game I've seen since game 6 SCF. And how about Briere? He made some plays that still leave me scratching my head.

Anonymous said...

That pic of the Lupul figurine with that expression is funny. Cruel, but funny.

Sounds like the Oil sure tested Biron in the first. Pretty darn exciting.

Chris said...

Ah come on Grabia, if Kevin Lowe gets blamed for dealing badly when he gets a lousy turn and has to deal Pronger, at least give him let him take some credit when karma comes back his way and the prospects emerge before out eyes.

Rod said...

Small correction. The colour guy on the radio broadcast was Kevin Karius (not certain of the spelling). He's usually on TV for Global Edmonton.

Jason Gregor works for the Team1260, and they don't have the Oiler broadcasts.

Looked like a great game...what we saw of it anyway. The PPV crapped out for the 3rd period. Damn EIG.

Not everything they do is awful though. The classy pre-game Gator tribute was a really nice touch.

mike w said...

I couldn't get the internet feed so I ignored everything until I got home to my recored Centre Ice boradcast.

Good thing, too. Great game. Lots to like.

$$$ question: who would you take in a pool? Gagner or Cogliano?

GOIL.

mike w said...

Also, I'd like to point out: REASONER.

The team is playing well, and I'm as happy as everyone else. And the off-season additions all look good. I'll give him credit for all that. I'll even give him credit for drafting those kids. But it's only two games, and there is no way they knew that Gagner and Cogliano were going to be this effective. I just don't want to get my hopes up yet, is all.

mike w said...

I agree.

In the absence of a poor game so far, fans might think that this team is better than it is. We still have seen 6 posts in 2 games, some lucky bounces, and quite a few turnovers and mis-reads from the top 4 defencemen.

But I as mumbled to myself last night, it's a helluva team to watch.

Doogie said...

Considering I have Cogs in one pool and tried to get Gagner in both of them...I would say beat up your rival managers for their drafting money.

go Flyers!

I think the best term for the Oilers young guns would be "The Pipeline". Keeps the fresh Oil coming in.
