Hey folks, what’s up? So we haven't touched the blog in, let's see here… five days!? Christ.
Aside from laying low, basking in the belt-loosening afterglow of a carb-laden Battle of Alberta victory, I’ve flipped channels long enough to see that Fernando Pisani is back practicing with the team, looking healthy, which is probably the first real good news since the season began. Meanwhile, the cavalry is coming – Sheldon Souray may start Wednesday, Joni Pitkanen is testing his bum knee on skates, and Mathieu Roy has been on the ice as well. Good stuff, good stuff. Ethan Moreau, presumably, is retired with a broken foot.
In other news, Mark Messier was inducted into the Hall of Fame. We all know about Messier’s leadership, his puppy-killing stare, the Stanley Cups, the famous guarantee, the Gary Coleman in his lap, the Lays potato chips, blah blah blah. No doubt he was a great player, and I may be blocking all things Messier since his traumatic retirement night last winter, but I’ve suspended all living-in-the-1980s until this team is good enough to cheer about in 2007.And here’s something from the Things You’ll Never See The

The Oilers also announced they have called up Drouin-Deslauriers. Are one of the goalies hurt? Or maybe Rollie is on the move? Why the call-up?
Rollie is staying in Edmonton to rest. Because he is old.
I was wondering this too, stupid Oilers site doesn't say why the call-up of JDD is due to which goalie being hurt/tired. Could just be what Mike said, Roli is old.
JDD is probably coming up because Kevin Lowe, in his infinite wisdom, traded Garon and our last remaining pick in next summers' draft for Manny Malhotra.
Why the pessimism, The Human Torch? Were you denied a bank loan?
Seriously, I think this is more of a minor KLowe and MacT "mad scientist" lineup tinker more than anything, like the Toby Petersen saga, or perhaps the ill-fated Conkannen experiment? But, I think eventually Roloson is outta here by the trade deadline for a 1st rounder, especially since Garon seems to be on fire. Like some sort of guy... who's on fire...
Who can you see offering up a first rounder for Roloson? He's clearly on the decline - certainly still serviceable, but his best days are behind him. Moreover, he has a year left on his contract, and almost any team in contention for a playoff spot already has somebody at least as good as him.
Pisani, you're worth waiting for.
Modano is old and definitely not what he used to be. I didn't know he had his C back? I thought it was taken from him a while back for good.
so is a trade or is roli just old?
I wouldn't read too much into Roli not playing.
Cross your fingers and hope they hire someone who’s incompetent.
Does this count?

Brett Hull. Perfect!
I thought of y'all when they announced they hired Brett Hull. SUCH a bad idea. Very Oilers-like, I thought. I won't be surprised when they start hiring every player from the Cup team.
And not just Brett Hull, but Brett Hull as a member of a co-GM relationship.
Could be very, very bad. At least he gets along well with Mike Modano. :)
Hiring somebody from the heyday is Oilers-like, I meant. I don't think the Oilers ever hired two GMs at the same time. Sheesh.

Maybe they should get Brian Murray in to tell Lowe how to do his job.
The team suffers from leadership troubles, but if--and I say IF--this is the year when Stoll, Torres, Horcoff and Hemsky finally ripen as the core of the Oilers identity, then they'll be back in the Cup final for the West. Against the Avs, you could see some amazing chemistry starting to happen. For the first time this season, I was impressed.
Roli is coming back to Edm. (or at least one of them is) because of back2back games in different time zones. Not that unusual, nothing to read into this.
Just saving a starter a flight in the middle of the night.
Look who's coming to town:

Not a bad blog either. Maybe the 'Sphere should provide a 'hey.' It sounds like his Calgary visit was typically (yawn) quiet.

I think we should be granted some leeway given the Wild were in town.
I'm in Vancouver for the game, box seats no less... will attempt to provide a report until the FREE beverages render blackberry typing impossible...
Please do, another Mike W
Hoopies!! Anyone else drinkin' Steam Whistle and watching the Raptors while awaiting the GOIL ? Not a bad little game, not a bad little team. TJ, CB4, and now the Moon-Man! I was watching it out of boredom, but my LONG lost interest in B-Ball is being somewhat rekindled. well, my interest in the Raps is anyways.
Uh...GOIL!!!
Also, welcome back (one by one/eventually) the infirmary!
Hoopies indeed. Beats watching Dallas/San Jose.
Oh, and of course by "not a bad little game", I meant close/entertaining, not, you know, well executed.
