Meet the newest cocksucking SOB

Curtis Glencross is now a member of the Calgary Flames (there wasn't a specific story on it yet; I'll update the link when I begin to care).

The signing certainly makes a lot of sense from the Flames point of view, given that the man they call GlenX basically wrecked up the place any time he played the Flames (5 of his 15 goals in 5 games, never mind the fighting and hitting and swearing and seducing of their sisters and insulting of the quality of their mothers' meatloaves).

I would have liked to see Glencross back, though not for anything near the $2 mil or so he was supposedly asking for; if the Flames actually gave him that much, I'm going to thoroughly enjoy watching him earn about $200k per goal next year (otherwise known as "being a member of the Calgary Flames not named Jarome Iginla"). If they got him for the much more reasonable, sane $1 million-ish dollars that I would have happily locked him up for, then I'll be both a little baffled and a little pissed that he isn't still an Oiler.

Either way, though, I can't imagine I'm going to like seeing him in a Flames jersey six times a year.

The Herald site was saying the deal is three years, $3.2M, which is so reasonable you have to wonder why the Oilers couldn't get it done.

Haven't seen that confirmed at all yet.

Unless Lowe fucked up and decided he needed to keep as much money on the table as possible for Hossa, I can't imagine why we didn't sign him if that's all I took.

My only guess is, and others have said this, Glencross is going to be a second line forward by default in Calgary.

I wanted Curtis Glencross to stay here.

Now I want his face to have a meeting with a puck delivered by a Sheldon Souray slapshot.

That is all.

Meh. They got a bunch of somewhat cheaper bubble players for the fourth line.

I feel like too much of Glencross has been built up from the 20 games he played really well in late last season.

Flames "saw him good."

He can't sustain Kovalchuk-ian and Ovechkian shooting percentages forever.

Remember when Mike Morrison seemed like a really good goaltender?

I'd love to see the Oilers go after Nolan, but at this point all I care about is Le GG. If he ends up in Calgary, I'm never watching hockey again. Seriously.

Between Glencross and Rene Bourque, I'm having visions of Fernando Pisani standing next to Darryl Sutter next summer holding a Flames jersey and laughing maniacally while lightning flashes in the background.

Apparently the deal is for about 1.1 or 1.2M a year.

All Glencross has to do for me to like him is be better than Marcus Nilson or Wayne Primeau. That can't be very hard. And, as you mention, at least he won't be scoring on us anymore.

metrognome's clearly never heard of an own goal.

I liked Glencross, and 1ishMM a year is reasonable, but I can see where he'd prefer it from Calgary than Edmonton.

given that his favorite movie is 8 seconds and his favorite band is nickelback (i only remember it because i almost pissed myself laughing when i saw the interview)...i can also see why the slack jawed yokel would prefer to live in the city to the south. i'm sure he will be seen in cowboys sans shirt by the end of the summer.

I liked Glencross, and now here he goes playing for the Flames. Okay so yeah they're kind of his home team, but come on now. There are two feelings I have about this trade and which one I feel depends on exactly how this went down. If Lowe let GlenX go because he was too preoccupied with Hossa then I shan't be to impressed with Lowe, but if GlenX turned down a similar contract from Edmonton in favour of Calgary I'll be hoping Glencross receives one of these Souray pucks aforementioned by HBomb.

the Oil fucked up on this one as the rummor is that they offer huggy bear (stortini) 1.1M/year. Dont blame him for leaving and will miss him as a Oiler. Dont think he wanted to leave but had no choice to do so.

Maybe they're just making room for Laraque on the 4th line...

It's a good move for the Flames, and because of that, doubly sucks for the Oilers, but if he does return to Earth (which seems likely), it won't exactly be a heartbreaker. He'll just be a tough SOB to play against, and it's not like there aren't enough of those in other sweaters around the League.

boyle and/or lukowich would have been nice after the hossa wish fell through. we're too good on defense now because we picked up one guy and traded two?

We're better on defensive because we mad a qual/quan swap that upgraded Pitkanen to Visnovsky at the minimal expense of Matt Greene. We can use an upgrade, but I don't think Boyle fills a need and I don't think Lukowich is an upgrade.

Looks like there's an even newer cocksucking SOB, (one who deserves the label much, much more):

Wow. The Flames really make it easy to hate them.

You know, the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. They had something like $2 million with which to find a reasonable top-six forward, and Bertuzzi is exactly the kind of player Keenan loves.

Granted, I still think he's washed up and useless, but for one year, why not take the chance that he can do something with Jarmoe?

It just occurs to me that Warrener looks like he's going to cry over losing that puck. Just sayin'
