Actually I remember driving back to Sherwood Park once on that street in my lady friend's pickup truck, and a really drunk fat dude tried to climb into the truck bed at a red light at that intersection.Luckily the light went green so she speed up and the guy went tumbling in the middle of the intersection. It was probably for the best.
I'm actually presently DJing at a bar that was just out of the screen. The old Pig'n'Whistle, now revamped and rechristened the Empress. Oh. happy days. Ah, the tail end of Whyte Ave.
That is literally 3 blocks west of me.;-)BTW your Oilers VS Blogger post came up on Twitter. Just search for #yegI wudda commented there but google has done a great job of running blogger into the ground: when you click Comment a nice little window opens ... and then proceeds to load every single comment instead of just the form. (Nothing new: google has done a terrible job since the day they bought it.)stay well--bentrem
The Empress is the new Black Dog, no?
Yes. Well, it's more like the old Black Dog.
Gas is 98.4 there now - when did they shoot that? (yes, this is the first thing that popped into my head)
I *heart* the Empress. I was introduced to espresso vodka there... and it wasn't nearly as bad as you'd think. Also - beating the Flames is fun. And Pouliot worked quite well with Cap'n and Pies. That is all.
Awesome game by the Oilers - that is after the hit by MacIntyre. Loved every minute of it, this season should be fun. Btw - When I saw that footage of Whyte ave and then hearing Ron and the boys laughing I thought: A: damn there really is not that many people on our (supposedly) liveliest street and/or B: what the heck did they see that the viewer didn't? (he mentions something about crime wtf?) Anyways, I still liked that they showed part of the city driving around like that. Back to the game - I thought that pretty much every player played really well with the exception of maybe Penner and Hemsky. But what is it with this team and their first periods? Go Oilers!
hahahaha After Hours will never be the same again with that scenic shot of Edmonton's finest gas station. We could've at least got a shot of the river valley or the muttart conservatory or something! Anything! Even a drive down Whyte or something. But the coin laundry? Yikes!GOILERS! And long live CiO! ^_^
I used to live at Whyte Manor which is adjacent to that Esso. Good times. Eventually stepping over homeless individuals every morning on the way to work went from being novel to annoying and sometimes frightening.Granted the Pig & Whistle was still around, so the digs were mostly the Backdraught and Wunderbar.
I'm afraid I must insist that Steve Macintyre's nickname is now "Coin Laundry".
Ah, the desolate, wide-open spaces of home.
Coin Laundry indeed.
I used to do my laundry there for reals.
Holy shit, man, your laundry is famous!
I know. And here I am, left behind, only the slightest warmth of reflected glory to slightly warm me.
"...I feel like there's going to be a violent crime, let's stay with that."That was good stuff. Is MacLean vying to be a new contributer here now that Berry's retiring?Plus my word verification is NKOYB. One letter away...
...so close. That would've been the right stuff.Hang tough, slipper, and please, please don't go.
