It's crazy that Hatcher left his feet and charged a guy. It obviously backfired when he takes out one of his own team's top scorers. It's karma...sucks for Lupul because he didn't deserve it, but maybe thats what it takes for the Flyers team to calm the fuck down and stop delivering malicious hits......it's unfortunate really.

I should point out, for posterity's sake, that I think the schadenfreude in this comes from four sources:

1. Seeing Joffrey Lupul get nailed. Admittedly, though, this is of the, 'Ha! Oh. Oh...." variety. Speedy recovery, Lups: people will still think you're good if you don't go into a second-half slump.

This is not so much about Lupul as it is about Hatcher. That hit is a PRIME example of attempt to injure another player, plain and simple.

As much as hockey is a contact sport, there is a line of conduct that must drawn that relates to the fact that hockey is a game and a solidarity among players that they hold in their hands other players good fortunes and lives.

Lupul feasted on some sweaty balls while playing for Edmonton, no doubt, but he isn't a player that I hate or would wish injury upon.

For me, the best part about the hit is that it was Hatcher's flying elbow smash (thanks Art) that conjured it up. I still hate the Evil Mulleted One with a passion, as should all good Oilers fans from the late 1990s.

Shitty mean-spirited guys (e.g. FCP) I don't mind seeing getting hurt because it gives the illussion of cosmic justice. But someone like Lupul always struck me as too pitiable and pathetic to wish harm. His clueless comments seemed to cement that. That is probably more damning than wishing him physical harm, I guess, but there it is.

I want to add my name to the list of people hoping for a full recovery. He's one of my least favourite players but cheering for injuries is pretty cold (a brief period in my life shortly the end of G1 of the SCF in 2006 is, I think, understandable).

When is the league gonna step in and do something about this? Philly is clearly following a regime of violence, (likely based on 2 things: 1) The Mighty Ducks' success while being the dirtiest team in the league last year; 2) The good 'ole broad street bullies B.S. they like to harken back to). That was the very same thing I noticed. The look of concern on Hatcher's face and the number of teammates that rushed over to aid Lupul.

That's not a team. A teammate gets hurt - especially in a freak accident like that - and the general ho-hum showed by teammates was overwhelming.
Hatcher especially should have been concerned. Then again, the more teammates on Philly with injuries
